Endowment Committee

The Vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of St. Joseph, Michigan established a permanent Endowment Fund on September 16, 1997. The objective of the fund is the promotion and development of religious, charitable and educational activities which grow out of the ministry of St. Paul's Church.

The Fund is administered by a committee of five voting members, appointed by the Vestry. The parish rector is an ex-officio member. The church treasurer also attends the meetings.

The Committee meets quarterly during February, May, August and November on the second Tuesday of the month at 5:00 pm in the Church lounge, unless otherwise announced. Special meetings may be called at the request of any two Committee members.

The primary task of the Fund is to encourage members and friends of the church to consider a gift over and above their current contributions, to support the continuing life of the church. Some methods of giving are bequests, trusts, life insurance, real estate, personal property, securities, cash, and gifts in honor or memory of a loved one.

As long as the market value of the Fund is less than $100,000,00, 100% is deemed principal. In 2009, the threshold of $100,000.00 was reached and earning from the principal were divided, 10% as part of the principal and 90% available for distribution.

Guidelines and grant request forms are available at the church office, or from members of the Committee. Contact Bernice Tretheway, secretary for more information. The Committee makes recommendations to the Vestry for action.
